Atkins Farm prepares to mark 50th anniversary

Date: 12/4/2012

AMHERST – Over the last 50 years, there have been many changes to the corner of Bay Road and Route 116 in Amherst.

In August 1962, the very first retail building, Atkins Farms Fruit Bowl, a steel-framed, one-story building, with five overhead garage doors was opened. Howard Atkins feared no one would show up for the opening day, so his wife, Ruth oversaw the opening of the business while he busied himself packing apples at the storage facility. The opening was a success and Howard built his business on hard-working, family values, with a commitment to customer service and quality products.

As time went by, and the business flourished, Howard was confident that the trusted people who worked with him would continue his dream.

Today's Atkins Farms Country Market has undergone amazing changes and improvements. With 50 years of experience, Atkins staff continues Howard's commitment with exceptional customer service and strives to exceed customer expectations by continuing to provide the highest quality selections possible.

When asked about the success of Atkins Market, Pauline Lannon, president said, "Over the years, so much here has changed, but we stay true to our roots. We have always maintained that we have eyes for the future. Howard Atkins is upper most in my mind as we celebrate 50 years. Much of our success is due to his energy and enthusiasm, his encouragement and faith in others."

To mark the 50th year in business, Atkins invites their valued and loyal customers to share in their celebration with spectacular 50th Anniversary specials throughout the store, beginning on Dec. 14.

During the Anniversary Week celebration, the first 50 customers to visit the bakery each day will receive one of Atkins famous apple cider donuts for free.

Customers who shop between Dec. 14 and 20 will also have an opportunity to enter a drawing for one of several anniversary prizes. The grand prize is a complete holiday dinner for up to eight people. Other prizes include a $100 Gourmet Gift Basket, Savory Suppers Entrees and more. The grand prize drawing will take place on Dec. 21.

Atkins Farms Family of employees would like to extend their appreciation to all the customers who support the business. Atkins will continue to celebrate throughout the coming year with monthly "Fabulous Fifty" specials and a grand reopening celebration in the spring.
