Bay Path College elects three new trustees

LONGMEADOW At a recent meeting of the Bay Path College Board of Trustees, Robyn Newhouse, PhD, of Suffield, Conn., alumna Ann (Bailey) Hammer '62 of Tequesta, Fla., and Kay Bernon of Wellesley, Mass.,, were elected trustees.

Vice President and Assistant to the Publisher of the Republican, Newhouse serves locally as a board member of the Community Music School of Springfield and is a board member of the National Conference for Community and Justice and the National Guild of Community School of the Arts. A member of the Sinai Temple, Newhouse is actively involved in the Springfield area. She sits on the Rays of Hope Steering Committee and is a project reviewer for the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. She previously served as a hotline volunteer and a board member at the Womanshelter/Campaneras in Holyoke. A licensed psychologist in Connecticut and Massachusetts, Newhouse received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the United States International University in San Diego. She held several psychology-related positions prior to joining the Republican in 1988.

Hammer has demonstrated a deep commitment to public service for nearly 50 years. She has worked with the Ford Foundation in New York, where she supported the organization's mission to advance human welfare. Her desire to help others broadened over the years as she became an advocate for environmental causes and adult literacy. Involved in the Hammer Family Charitable Foundation, she now volunteers her time working with at-risk children and English as a Second Language candidates.

Known for establishing the Berkshire Hills Music Academy in South Hadley in 1998, Bernon has cultivated relationships with local colleges, including Bay Path, to expand the experiences and interactions between young adults with disabilities and college students through volunteerism and mentorships. For the last several years, students from the Academy have performed and delighted audiences at Bay Path's annual Winterfest Concert. Bernon, who holds a bachelor's degree from Babson College, was recognized in 2007 with an honorary degree from Bay Path, and she has been honored by the Community Housing for Adult Independence of the greater Boston Jewish Family & Child Services for her hard work and determination in promoting rich, community-based lives for individuals with disabilities.

In addition to naming Newhouse, Hammer and Bernon as new trustees, the Bay Path College Board of Trustees re-appointed Longmeadow residents and community volunteers Robyn Davis as board chair and Roberta Bolduc as vice chair.
