Bay Path helps build 'financial pathways'

Date: 2/22/2010

LONGMEADOW From credit and taxes to investments and retirement, Bay Path College is making it easier for area women to understand the money matters associated with life during its new educational series "Financial Pathways." Funded by the Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation, "Financial Pathways" is designed to encourage, enlighten and empower women to take responsibility for their financial success. In doing so, they will be inspired to make an impact on their families, workplace and communities. The series will begin in March and continue throughout the fall of 2010.

"During these difficult economic times, the importance of financial literacy has become even more pressing," said Financial Pathways Program Director Mary Pajak '84. "Through this series, Bay Path will build women's understanding of basic financial concepts, helping develop the confidence and the knowledge to take control of their own finances."

The inaugural workshop in the "Financial Pathways" series is devoted to the world of credit. From understanding credit and credit cards to obtaining and reading credit reports and rebuilding from bad credit, this workshop will provide participants with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully manage their credit. The workshop will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 2 at Breck Suite on the Bay Path College, 588 Longmeadow St.

To ensure new participants start on the right foot, everyone will receive a copy of April 14 speaker Janet Bodnar's "Kiplinger's Money Smart Women: Everything You Need to Know to Achieve a Lifetime of Financial Security," practical financial worksheets and a "Financial Pathways" calculator and organizer for financial planning information. March and April participants will also receive a copy of "Kiplinger's Personal Finance" magazine, which Bodnar serves as the editor.

Upcoming workshops will focus the various money personalities and budgeting: retirement, estate planning and philanthropy, life transitions, investments, taxes and financing. Refreshments will be served, and registration is required. Tickets cost $10 each or $15 for two when you sign up with a friend. Call Mary Pajak at 565-1115 to register.
