Berkshire Bank Foundation helps Habitat for Humanity

WESTFIELD Berkshire Bank announced that through its Berkshire Bank Foundation-Pioneer Valley, the bank is sponsoring a new project to benefit families who have bought homes through Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity. Under this program, students at Westfield Vocational Technical High School built a storage shed with materials provided by the Berkshire Bank Foundation. The effort is in conjunction with the bank's $30,000 Home Equity Loan Cash Giveaway promotion scheduled for this summer.

Westfield Vocational Technical High School was one of the schools selected to build a shed. The school received a grant from the foundation to purchase the necessary materials for the shed. The participating school was free to select the design they wanted for their 8'x10' shed. Brian Falcetti, director of the carpentry program at the school, oversaw the construction of the shed. Upon completion, the shed was delivered on June 25 free of charge by Home Town Structures, located in Westfield, to a family in Holyoke.

Peter Lafayette, the foundation's Executive Director, said, "This project is an innovative way to both helping a local non-profit agency and teaching young people the value of doing good deeds. We are excited to be involved in this project that has the involvement of several groups, and includes a positive hands-on experience for students."

Berkshire Bank kicked off a Home Equity Line of Credit promotion in which people can enter to win one of three, $10,000 cash giveaways. The promotion features a great rate special on home equity loans, and will give entrants the chance to win one of three grand prizes to be awarded during the year. Contest information is available at any Berkshire Bank location.
