Chicopee, Westfield Chambers of Commerce welcome Scott Brown

Date: 9/14/2010

GREATER SPRINGFIELD -- The Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce and the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce have partnered to present a legislative breakfast on Oct. 4 where U.S. Sen. Scott Brown will be the keynote speaker. The breakfast will take place at the Log Cabin Banquet and Meeting House in Holyoke.

According to Lynn Boscher, executive director of the Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce, the chamber has had a history of trying to get the most desirable and timely speakers for our events.

Initial contacts with Brown's office began in January to start the process. Due to his popularity it was major task to find a date he could commit to.

"When I found out that the Chicopee Chamber of Commerce was also trying to get the Senator to a similar event in a similar time frame, I spoke with Gail Sherman, president of that chamber about partnering in our efforts to get the senator. Our combined efforts and with help from [State] Sen. Michael Knapik's office, we succeeded in attracting Sen. Brown," Boucher explained.

Brown was elected by the people of Massachusetts on Jan. 19 to fill the term of the late Senator Ted Kennedy. He serves on the Senate Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Prior to his election to the U.S. Senate, Brown served in the Massachusetts State Senate where he led the fight against wasteful government spending and higher taxes.

He is a free-market advocate who believes that our strength as a nation comes from the ingenuity and hard work of its people.

He believes in a culture of family, patriotism, and freedom.

Anyone can attend the breakfast. Make reservations by calling either Chamber of Commerce. The cost for members of the participating chambers is $25. Non-members will be $30.

The event is on Oct. 4 with registration at 7:30 a.m., breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The program will begin at 8:45 a.m.
