Date: 5/1/2014

FLORENCE – Florence Savings Bank, a mutually-owned savings bank serving the Pioneer Valley through nine branch locations, has named Michael A. Davey of South Deerfield as their Community Support Award winner for 2014.

Davey, a vice president and commercial loan officer, joined Florence Savings Bank in 2008.

“The Community Support Award Program was established by the bank in 1997, as a means of formally recognizing employees who are active participants in community events and who donate their personal and professional time to local not-for-profit organizations,” Diane Gould, senior vice president, Human Resources director at Florence Savings Bank, said.

Each year, the award recipient has the opportunity to select a not-for-profit organization of his/her choice, and the Bank makes a donation to that organization. At Davey’s recommendation, Florence Savings Bank will make a donation to the Greenfield Community College Foundation, and to the Four Rivers Charter Public School, a college preparatory middle and high school in Franklin County.

Davey, a Greenfield native, is active in a number of area organizations. He serves on the Board of the United Way of Hampshire County, the Board of the Greenfield Community College Foundation, and as a Board member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Training and Development, based in Amherst.

Davey’s community involvement also includes participation in numerous fundraising activities to benefit organizations. “I firmly believe we should support those in our community who are facing challenges. There are so many non-profits doing great work in this regard, and I’m happy to support their efforts to improve lives,” he said.

Davey is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, where he earned both his Bachelor’s Degree and his Master’s of Business Administration. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, cycling, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

Florence Savings Bank President and Chief Executive Officer John F. Heaps Jr. said, “Mike is the ideal choice for the Community Support Award. He gives so freely of his time and energies, and his efforts make a real difference in the lives of so many. We are all very proud of the example he sets.”
