Credit Union Day

ValleyStone celebrates Credit Union Day

ValleyStone Credit Union will be celebrating International Credit Union Day along with some 123 million credit union members from around the world on October 19. As they do, they will celebrate the unique service their credit unions provide and the many ways their members have benefited from the credit union difference.

This year, ValleyStone Credit Union will be celebrating through a number of different endeavors including a coloring contest for local youth.

More than 150 years ago, the idea of forming a credit union caught hold in Germany. From that small beginning, the credit union movement has grown to include more than 123 million members belonging to 40,421 credit unions worldwide.

In 1935, when the credit union movement was helping Americans through the Great Depression, the treasurer of a Midwestern credit union said that credit unions were "for profit, not for charity, but for service," and that philosophy holds true today. Credit unions continue to look out for their members' interests and provide a level of service that is not generally available at other financial institutions.

In the 2005 American Banker/Gallup Consumer Survey, credit unions ranked higher than banks and thrifts in "customer satisfaction" for the 21st consecutive year.

The contest will run from Oct. 6 until Oct. 18. The winners will be chosen on Oct. 19, International Credit Union Day. Children age 12 and under can enter. There will be three age categories: under 5 years of age; 5 8; and 9-12. There will be a first and second place winner from each age group. For a coloring contest form, please visit www.valleystone.com or stop by one of its three locations.
