Daughter for a Day

Becca Kingston
New business gives you a 'Daughter For a Day'

EAST LONGMEADOW The inspiration for Becca Kingston's unique new business came from her mother-in-law's basement.

Last Spring, when Becca Kingston was helping to clean and organize Vivienne Kingston's East Longmeadow home, Vivienne casually remarked, "Everyone should be so lucky to have a daughter-in-law like you."

In that moment, Kingston said, she was inspired to begin Daughter For a Day Inc. With this service, Kingston is able to utilize her talents of interior decorating, organization, shopping and burning photo albums onto "memory DVDs", complete with soundtracks and graphics.

"I knew that I wanted to start my own business but it wasn't until that comment that it all clicked," said the Chicopee resident and 2004 Smith College graduate. "I thought, this is how I can do it and incorporate all of these gifts."

It has only been six months since Daughter For a Day Inc. began business as a fully licensed and insured company but Kingston reports that business is booming. She said that clients are referred, mainly by word-of-mouth, with projects as individual as their personalities.

With budgets ranging from large to very modest, Kingston has turned basements into theatrical playrooms, transformed years of clutter into the picture of perfect organization, bought and wrapped gifts for the very busy, freshened the decor of homes, and much more.

With such a wide range of services, Kingston has yet to back down from a challenge or be faced with a task that she cannot tackle. Her mission statement: "Let Daughter for a Day Inc. help open the doors to a simpler, more organized you."

"I love that when I leave, the client is happier and lighter than before," Kingston said.

Because she does not limit her services, Kingston offers gift certificates at about $25 hourly and $125 daily that can be even used for chores such as programming VCRs, giving computer lessons, or just running general errands.

Some of her most memorable accomplishments so far have been creating a family album DVD as a gift for a 70-year-old Grandmother who still watches it daily and helping a widow to organize the belongings of her late husband, an emotional journey that helped her to grieve.

"All of my clients are so special," Kingston said, looking back on the whirlwind of her start-up. "I feel very blessed to have such positive feedback from them."
