EAST LONGMEADOW — In 2010, Denise Smith began considering a shift from her home-based photography business in Longmeadow to a larger, more commercial venture. Two years and a sizeable renovation later, she's ready to host the grand opening of Denise Smith Photography, 40 Crane Ave., on April 19.

The new 2,500 square-foot studio is three times the size of Smith's previous location and will be a welcoming space for all who attend the open house, photography sessions or photography courses.

"It took two years because I needed to find the right space. Having my business in my home was something I enjoyed for many, many years but I'm just at a point in my life that I wanted to make a change to move my business to a new, expanded chapter," Smith explained.

The new location also allows Smith to have her own office, a reception area and multi-background portrait areas, which she said, enables "more efficient sessions" for her clients.

The move has also allowed for the addition of one staff member, bringing the total to three, including Smith.

"This is something that I'm really excited about and so pleased with the way everything has turned out and I'm looking toward another 20 years in business," she said.

The open house of Denise Smith Photography, which will be a catered event open to the public, will be on April 19 from 5 to 8 p.m.
