Employees at Dept. of Workforce Development donate to American Red Cross Haiti relief efforts
Date: 3/8/2010
SPRINGFIELD Employees of the Springfield office of the Department of Workforce Development were moved by the great needs of the people of Haiti following the Jan. 12 earthquake. Staff worked together to host a "goodie sale" to help raise funds to make a donation to the American Red Cross to assist with relief efforts in Haiti.
Over a period of one week, staff volunteered their time to sell goodies in the workplace, raising $730 for the Haiti Relief and Development Efforts with the American Red Cross.
Employees Linda Luckey and Marion Smrecek presented the donation on behalf of the employees to Pioneer Valley Chapter Deputy Director of Chapter Support Paige Thayer last week.
"We are so grateful for the great outpouring of support for the Haiti Relief and Development effort," said Thayer. "People are coming up with very creative ways to raise funds to support this ongoing relief program, and working together to engage their co-workers, family and the community."
You can help the victims of countless crises around the world each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, which will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies, technical assistance and other support to help those in need. The American Red Cross honors donor intent. Donations can be sent to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013, or made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish) or online at
