SPRINGFIELD — Many people take a daily shower for granted, but for homeless and at risk people, basic hygiene often is a luxury they can't afford.

Executive Valet Parking has developed a plan to help the area's needy. Through March 31, anyone who donates at least three travel-sized toiletry items will receive a coupon for one free day of parking. All toiletry items will be donated to The Springfield Rescue Mission.

"We always look for ways in which we can be a contributing member of the community," Steve Lepow at Executive Valet Parking's Suffield, Conn., location, said. "This makes perfect sense. When travelers purchase their trial-sized items, they can purchase an extra set for a free day of parking."

To make a donation, simply bring in at least three travel-sized or one regular sized toiletry item such as shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, soap, body wash, brushes, combs, tissues, deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream, body lotion, body powder, lip balm or underwear.

"There are many frequent travelers who have drawers full of unopened toiletry items they've collected from hotels," Lepow said. "We can collect those as well. It would be nice to be able to contribute something that seems so small, but can make a tremendous difference in a person's daily hygiene."

To make a donation of at least three toiletry items and receive one free day parking, go to either Executive Valet Parking, 1186 South St., Suffield Conn., or The Springfield Rescue Mission, 19 Bliss St., Springfield.
