Friendly's celebrates 25 years of Cones for Kids

Celebrating the 25th year of Cones for Kids, Friendly Ice Cream Corporation has launched its annual Valentine's Day fundraiser to benefit Easter Seals Massachusetts and announced a goal of raising $1 million for children and adults with disabilities.

Since 1981, Cones for Kids has been a winter tradition at Friendly's restaurants up and down the East Coast. Every year, the efforts of employees across the restaurant chain help change the lives of thousands of people of all ages with disabilities. Cones for Kids has raised more than $22 million to date; $765,000 in 2005 alone.

For a dollar donation to Easter Seals, Friendly's provides its customers with either a Kids' Valentine's Day card, redeemable for five free Friendly's Kid Cones, or a valuable Adult Coupon Booklet worth more than $35. The coupons include savings for various Friendly's meals and ice cream, as well as a free 8" x 10" color portrait from JCPenney Portraits. The campaign runs through February 14.

The dollars raised through Cones for Kids every year help Easter Seals offer technological assistance, job training and employment, recreational activities and rehabilitation services to people with disabilities, as well as public awareness programs.

"Cones for Kids is a reflection of the hard work of Friendly's employees and the generosity of Friendly's Ice Cream Corporation," Easter Seals President Kirk Joslin said. "It enables Easter Seals to provide services to ensure that thousands of children and adults with disabilities in Massachusetts have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play."
