SPRINGFIELD – Douglas A. Bowen, president and CEO of PeoplesBank, has announced the promotion of Janice Mazzallo to executive vice president and chief Human Resources officer. Mazzallo had previously served the bank as senior vice president, Human Resources.

“For the past several years, Janice has led our successful efforts to build a performance-based culture,” Bowen said. “This has enabled us to grow into the top community bank in our market and made us a great place to work as well.”

Mazzallo has more than 30 years of human capital management experience, including serving as second vice president, Human Resources, at The Phoenix Companies in Hartford, Conn. Since joining PeoplesBank in 2005, Mazzallo has partnered with management to drive change and people strategies that achieved strong business results. She planned and directed the bank’s three-year strategic planning process, developed human resource programs that support a high-performance culture, and implemented a best-in-class Leadership Development Program that benchmarked Ritz Carlton Business Practices, as well as a Management Development Program.

During Mazzallo’s tenure, PeoplesBank has been named a Top Place to Work by the Boston Globe on two occasions, was selected as an Employer of Choice by the Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce and was selected by readers of the Republican as a Best Place to Work as part of their annual Reader Raves poll.

Mazzallo is a 2008 graduate of America’s Community Bankers National School of Finance at Fairfield University and of Cambridge College, where she earned a Master’s in Management in 1998. Mazzallo regularly presents on a variety of human resources subjects, including “Building a High-Performance Culture through Employee Engagement” at the National Employee Benefits Forum and Expo and “Deciding What Is Most Important in Life: Aligning Your Core Values with Your Career” at the Bay Path College Women’s Conference.

Mazzallo is a member of the Human Resource Management Association of Western New England and the Society for Human Resource Management.
