Renaissance Manor receives five-star evaluation rating

HOLYOKE – The stars have aligned Renaissance Manor on Cabot. That’s because the skilled nursing and rehabilitation care center has been awarded the highest, five-star rating for quality in a recent evaluation by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a division of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The rating is part of the government’s Nursing Home Compare website to help consumers choose the right skilled nursing care.

The five-star rating means that Renaissance Manor on Cabot, a member of the Revera Inc. family, was rated Much Above Average among nursing homes in Massachusetts, center Exective Director Joel Camp said.

“CMS looked at our center based on a number of important criteria,starting with our health inspection ratings over the past three years,” Camp said. “This includes both state surveys and complaint surveys. Next CMS looked at our staffing levels, with our score based on the average number of hours of care given to each of our residents every day. Finally, they evaluated us based on a set of ten physical and clinical quality measures devised by CMS for both long and short stays.”

Some of these measures include levels of pain reported by residents, use of physical restraints, and incidence of urinary tract infections or skin care ulcers. The center received its five-star rating in the “quality” category, which encompasses all aspects of
