| Steve & Barry's University Sportswear is coming to the Eastfield Mall SPRINGFIELD MDC Retail Properties Group of Clifton, NJ, the owners of Eastfield Mall on Boston Road in Springfield, has signed a lease with New York based Steve & Barry's University Sportswear for a 23,000 square foot store. For over 20 years, Steve & Barry's has been providing quality apparel at groundbreaking prices of 50 percent to 90 percent less for the same quality clothing found at competing department and specialty stores. Steve & Barry's features the largest selection of the most popular men's, women's and kid's apparel, including entire departments of jeans, t-shirts, athletic pants, jackets, footwear, heavyweight hooded sweatshirts, jerseys, hats, chinos, shorts and polo shirts in sizes to fit the whole family. Today, Steve & Barry's sells officially licensed products for over 350 colleges and universities. Steve & Barry's is also proud to offer apparel for many favorite American brands, such as Chevy, Pontiac, and Ford. By the end of the summer, Cheerios, Tootsie Roll, and Hershey's will be part of the Steve & Barry's experience as well. MDC Retail Properties Group purchased the Eastfield Mall in 1997 and has since invested in a major renovation to the center, including the addition of the 16-screen Showcase Cinemas, and has turned Eastfield Mall into a viable and profitable center that is the foundation of the surrounding community and retail district. Eastfield Mall is anchored by Filene's, soon to be converted to Macy's, JCPenney Outlet Store, and Sears. Junior anchors include Showcase Cinemas and Old Navy. "We are extremely excited about the addition of Steve & Barry's University Sportswear to Eastfield Mall," said Arlene Putnam, Eastfield Mall's General Manager. "The collegiate apparel that they specialize in, as well as their low prices, will be a great draw for our customers." The location which will be home to Steve & Barry's is currently under construction in the JCPenney corridor of the Mall. "With the construction barricade up you can really see just how big this store if going to be," Putnam said. "The store is going to be full of apparel for the whole family, from sweatshirts and t-shirts to jackets, jeans, and cargos. Steve & Barry's really appeals to all kinds of shoppers." According to Putnam, "Once Steve & Barry's opens Eastfield Mall will be 100-percent leased. This is a huge accomplishment for a shopping center." Steve & Barry's University Sportswear is scheduled to open in the Eastfield Mall late summer. |
