STCC offers new online courses

The Center for Business and Technology has entered into an agreement with Kirkwood Community College of Cedar Rapids, IA that will allow Springfield Technical Community College to offer a wide variety of very reasonably-priced on-line courses in terrorism, water treatment, hazardous materials, and wastewater treatment, and other environmental technology areas. Over 20 courses are currently available and new courses are being added constantly. Continuing education credits will be awarded by the College for all courses. Complete details are available on all of these courses at http://cbt.stcc.edu/webbasededu/. They will offer a Bartending course that begins soon. The course will be taught by Ray Pellegrini, a bartender with the Marriott Hotel for over 25 years. Emphasis will be on the proper preparation and presentation of a wide variety of mixed drinks for the home or commercial establishment. Coverage of local, state, and federal regulations affecting alcohol-serving establishments, supervisory and managerial responsibilities of the bartender, and mixology as a profession or avocation will also be included.

A Flower Arranging course will be taught by Pat Parker, owner of Pat Parker & Sons Florists in Springfield, and a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) and will include instruction and techniques for creating beautiful fresh flower arrangements. Participants will learn and apply the most basic and important concepts of floral design to their in-class projects including centerpieces, contemporary, vase arrangements, and more.

Anyone interested in either of these courses should call CBT at 755-4225 or 755-4501 to register or request a copy of the detailed brochure.
