WESTFIELD — Anthony M. Sylvia, P.E., joined Tighe & Bond Inc. in February as a new project manager for the firm's water resources and civil engineering practice.

He is slated to work primarily in the firm's Pocasset office, reinforcing the firm's continued growth and expansion in eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Rhode Island.

Sylvia has 18 years of exper-ience working closely with municipal and private clients to manage water resource capital improvements, as well as civil and site development. As project manager, he will work closely with clients to develop long term solutions that are cost-effective, energy efficient and appropriate to the unique needs of those communities.

Prior to joining Tighe & Bond, Sylvia was director of the Department of Public Works (DPW) for the Town of Agawam, where he oversaw public infra-structure operations, maintenance and capital improvements.

In Rhode Island, Sylvia was the DPW director for the City of Cranston, deputy utilities director for the City of Newport and town engineer for the Town of West Warwick. In those roles, he expanded preventative maintenance programs, set priorities for capital improvements to rehabilitate aging infrastructure, ensured environ-mental compliance by the DPW and collaborated at all levels of municipal government to improve public service.

Sylvia has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Roger Williams College in Bristol, R.I., and holds an engineering registration in that state. Also, he has been a state director for the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Asso-ciation since 2008. .
