Date: 8/3/2009

SPRINGFIELD The Loomis Communities, a leading non-profit provider of senior housing and care, announced recently that it is the successful bidder to acquire the assets of Reeds Landing, a retirement community in Springfield.

Reeds Landing, established in 1993, is also a non-profit continuing care retirement community, featuring 120 independent living apartments and cottages as well as 56 assisted living apartments and a skilled nursing center with 42 beds.

"We're pleased that Reeds Landing will become the newest member of our family," said Carol Katz, CEO of Loomis Communities. "Loomis and Reeds have much in common, and we believe that our missions, goals and programs reflect shared values. We are committed to providing high quality services to the residents and will honor all existing resident agreements as we assume ownership of the community.

"This acquisition effectively complements our other retirement communities: Loomis Village in South Hadley, Loomis House in Holyoke and Applewood in Amherst," she added. "More than anything else, we are excited about the opportunity to bring our full array of services and high quality care to create a full and vibrant community."

"Everyone at Reeds Landing is extremely pleased that Loomis is the preferred bidder and we are looking forward to working with them in the future," said Bob Smith, president of the Reeds Landing Residents' Association.

The Loomis Communities has provided exceptional senior living in the scenic Pioneer Valley for over 100 years. As a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) they are able to provide a complete continuum of care which allows residents to age in place.

A not-for-profit organization, the Loomis Communities was chartered in 1902 and has grown to be the area's premier provider of services to seniors.

Its corporate headquarters are located at 246 North Main St. in South Hadley.
