Date: 7/31/2015

WEST SPRINGFIELD – The United Bank Foundation Massachusetts recently announced that they awarded a total of $219,750 in the second quarter of 2015 to 15 nonprofit organizations based in and serving various causes in the Western Massachusetts and Worcester regions.

Specifically, the funding was earmarked for various programs and initiatives championed by area nonprofits, including an educational program at the New England Air Museum; student scholarships; access to services for individuals with developmental disabilities; low income youth attending summer camps and participating in scouting programs; and the third annual Green-N-Fit Day in the Old Hill Neighborhood in Springfield.

Including in the long list of recipients are the New England Air Museum (SOAR); Westfield Spanish American Association; the Western Mass Council of the Boy Scouts of America; the Association for Community Living in Western Mass; Boys & Girls Club of Worcester; Community Enrichment Inc. of Springfield; Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst; the Southeast Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts; among other deserving nonprofits that will be announced in the weeks ahead.

So far this year, the United Bank Foundation Massachusetts has dedicated approximately $327,250 to 34 nonprofit organizations serving the Central and Western Massachusetts regions. And since its inception, the Foundation has donated nearly $2.6 million to various nonprofits who selflessly dedicate their efforts to causes the Bank supports.

“The Foundation’s generosity through the first half of 2015 reflects that our commitment to the Western Mass and Central Mass regions is growing stronger quarter-after-quarter. We like to say that we are ‘creating a balance’ when it comes to balancing the banking needs of our customers while delivering on the compelling community needs in the areas United Bank serves,” Dena M. Hall, Western Massachusetts regional president, president of the United Bank Foundation Massachusetts and chief marketing officer, said. “Our Foundation Board understands the needs of our communities, to which organizations our corporate giving should be directed and where our generosity will have the most impact, including providing financial backing of programs and initiatives that support low-to-moderate income individuals and families.”

Nearly all of the funding requests approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors in the second quarter of 2015 helps the Bank comply with the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which is a United States federal law designed to encourage commercial banks and savings associations to help meet the needs of borrowers in all segments of their communities, including low-and moderate-income neighborhoods.
