Baystate Children's Hospital hosts annual exhibit of memorial quilts

SPRINGFIELD - The public is invited to attend Baystate Children's Hospital seventh annual exhibition of memorial quilts crafted at its yearly Services of Remembrance held over the past 10 years. The event will be held Sept. 28-30 in the hospital's Chestnut Conference Center, Rooms 1A & B, on 759 Chestnut St. in Springfield.

"This is a very moving display of powerful remembrances made with love by the families of children who have lost their lives to various illnesses and accidents," said Marge Bloom, LICSW, from Baystate's Social Services Department.

"We always receive many requests from families who attended these services to see the quilts once again," she added.

The special services, the most recent of which was held this March, include readings and music and are open to all family members and friends, as well as hospital staff, who remember and pay tribute to the children who were under their care.

During each service, families were given a small square of fabric which they personalized before it was added along with others to create a "Tapestry of Memories" quilt.

Quilts from 1998 through 2007 will be represented at the showing which will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30.

The exhibit is funded by the Children's Miracle Network and the Melissa Jennings Fund.

Refreshments will be served.
