Baystate offers a number of programs this month SPRINGFIELD Baystate medical Center is offering the following programs: Baystate Medical Center's Parent Education Department will offer a "Breastfeeding and Returning to Work" class, Tuesday, July 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the hospital's Lundy Board Room located in the Wesson Women and Infants' Building on 759 Chestnut St. in Springfield. Taught by a lactation consultant, the class will offer working mothers information on selecting a breast pump, pumping and storage, when to give a bottle, and weaning. The cost of the class is $10 and free to women who have already taken a prenatal breastfeeding class at Baystate. Baystate Medical Center's Parent Education Department will offer a "Childbirth Refresher" class on Sunday, July 16, from 1 to 5 pm in the hospital's Lundy Board Room located in the Wesson Building on Chestnut Street in Springfield. Designed for parents who have previously taken a prepared childbirth course, the class will feature a review of labor and delivery, breathing and relaxation, anesthesia choices and sibling preparation. It is also recommended for couples planning a vaginal delivery after a Cesarean birth. The cost of the course is $40. *** Baystate Medical Center's Parent Education Department will hold the next session of its Babysitting Academy on July 15 and 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Baystate Medical Center CPR Center, 3400A Main St. in Springfield. Designed for youngsters age 12-18, the two, four-hour sessions offer potential babysitters instruction in first-aid and CPR, child care, what to do in an emergency, and how to feed, rock, hold and diaper a baby. Participants are given a babysitter's handbook and CPR booklet, and will receive a graduation certificate upon completion of the course. There is a $30 fee to take part in the two-day program.
