Fight for Air Climb slated for Nov. 8

SPRINGFIELD – The Lung Association will host its 7th annual Fight for Air Climb in Springfield at One Monarch Place on Nov. 8 and is offering prospective participants a $15 break on the registration fee until Aug. 31.

Those who register as “early birds” will pay only $20 to register. Registration increases to $35 on Aug. 31. Participants in the event “fight for air”  by climbing up the 24 floors (48 flights, 528 stairs) of One Monarch Place,  all to raise money  to fight lung disease.   

Those who would like to join the hundreds of participants expected to participate in this fun event, which challenges them to climb Springfield’s tallest building can register by visiting fightforairclimb.org.

“Everyone who supports our Fight for Air Climb in Springfield is helping to bring us closer to finding better treatments and cures for lung diseases like asthma, COPD and lung cancer, which affect so many people here in Western Massachusetts and all across the Northeast,” Jeff Seyler, president and CEO of the American Lung Association of the Northeast, said. “We are expecting to see a lot of familiar faces at our 2014 climb and we’re hoping to see a lot of new faces too.”

The Lung Association hosts Fight for Air climbs all across the country. They attract both elite athletes and novice stair climbers alike. Participants can choose to race, run, or walk up the stairs. All funds raised support the Lung Association’s mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education and advocacy.

The Fight for Air Climb also includes a Firefighter Challenge where firefighters race against each other wearing turnout gear. Awards are given for the fastest firefighter and the fastest firefighting team.

The Springfield Fight for Air Climb is generously sponsored by Monarch Place, 94.7 WMAS, WWLP- 22 News, AMP Radio Network, Sports Radio 1450 AM The Hall, Telemundo and the Sheraton Hotel’s MVP Pub. The event is also made possible with the support of national Corporate Team partner, Kindred Healthcare. An after party will take place at the Sheraton Hotel’s MVP Pub and will commence immediately following the event.
