Local dentist plans to host 'candy buy-back'

SPRINGFIELD -- One area dentist is redefining the phrase "put your money where your mouth is." This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Dr. Laura Gramse's office, located at 2194 Wilbraham Rd. in Springfield, and receive $1 per pound.

Gramse is leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars, flashing toothbrushes and a free kid's meal coupon to Leone's Restaurant in exchange for cavity-provoking candy.

"Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost," Dr. Gramse said. "Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well."

Candy will be collected at the office Nov. 2 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The candy must be unopened. It will then be shipped to troops overseas. Kids are encouraged to come in their costumes and we will also have a special area designated for writing thank you letters to our troops.
