OPTIFAST INFO PROGRAM

The Comprehensive Weight Management Program at Mercy Medical Center, 233 Carew St. in Springfield is offering a free information session on the Optifast program on Aug. 22 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The one-hour class will provide a basic overview of Optifast program, including goals of the program, program, program components, expected weight loss, and how to get started. The class is free of charge. People with weight loss issues, their family members and friends as well as the members of the general public are all welcome to attend. CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP

Mount Saint Vincent Nursing Home offers a caregivers support group which meets on the first Wednesday of every month.Guest speakers will present creative ideas and concrete suggestions for caregivers.Emphasis on the overall well being and emotional needs of the caregiver will be the program's focus. Mount Saint Vincent Nursing Home's Library (near the Chapel on the first floor), 35 Holy Family Road, Holyoke, September 7, at 6:30 p.m. This support group is free, confidential and open to the public.For more information, contact Sr. Ramona Williams at 413-532-3246, x-205. CANCER EDUCATION

Noble Hospital will host the final segment in their summer community education series on Aug. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. The topic for the evening will be lung cancer. Philip T. Glynn, MD, Oncologist/Internal Medicine, and Kollegal Murthy, MD, Hemotalogist/Oncologist/Internal Medicine will discuss the disease and it's progression and prevention. They will also highlight some of the many new treatment options available to cancer patients. In recent years great strides have been made in the fight against lung cancer. Light refreshments will be served. The program will take place in Conference Room A at Noble Hospital located at 115 West Silver St., Westfield, MA.Registration is recommended as seating is limited.
