AD/HD Awareness Day

September 20 is the National AD/HD Awareness Day, while the month of October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month here and across the country. Increasing awareness of these disabilities is one of the goals of the Springfield Parent Advisory Council, also known as Parent's Advocating for Children, PAC and we will host our first meeting of this school year on evening, Oct. 4 from 7-9 p.m. at the Professional Development Center, (located behind the High School of Science and Technology, 1250 State Street).

The meeting will cover the subject of Phonemic Awareness, a very important first step in learning to read. Many children with reading difficulties can trace the problem back to the very existence of sounds in the world. What comes naturally to many, must be explicitly taught to others. Come learn about Phonemic Awareness and how PAC can help you have a winning year, for your child with special education needs.

Contact with PAC can be made by e-mailing Diane Purchase, PAC Facilitator at purchased@sps.springfield.ma.us or by calling 413-787-7194.
