College exam prep workshop offered in Springfield

Date: 12/7/2010

SPRINGFIELD — A free community college exam prep workshop will be presented by Huntington Learning Center of Springfield on Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Van Sickle Middle School, 1170 Carew St.

The workshop is designed to guide local students and their parents through the college entrance exam process.

The event is open to the public. Huntington Learning Center encourages attendance of all college-bound high school students and their parents to understand more about the upcoming opportunities and challenges you may face in preparing for this high-stakes exam.

"Many of the parents today are not fully aware of the changes that have taken place over time regarding the SAT and ACT exams and how test scores are valued by competitive colleges and universities," said Deborah Alli, who will lead the workshop. "This workshop will cover a wide range of topics related to college entrance exams including strategies that students can use to improve their test scores, as well as what to anticipate throughout the entire college application process."

Developed by Huntington Learning Center, this exam prep workshop is designed to be presented at schools and community centers to help educate and support parents and students throughout the college preparation process. The duration of the workshop can be varied according to the needs of the audience. Huntington also provides complimentary materials to help promote attendance at the workshops, which can be given to staff, parents and family members, and children as a take-home flyer.
