SPRINGFIELD Can beans make wishes come true? They can and do in "Jack and the Beanstalk," the award-winning puppet production created by master puppeteer Michael Graham, which will be presented at the Drama Studio on May 3 at 7 p.m. This popular classic features beautifully crafted hand and rod puppets, colorful scenic design, special effects and an original script in which Jack, with the help of a clever chicken, saves the day! Graham's production of "Jack and the Beanstalk" holds many surprises in this new approach to this old favorite. It was awarded in 1994 "Citation of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry" by UNIMA-USA, the American Center of the Union Internationale de la Marionette. The show runs 35 to 40 minutes and is appropriate for ages five and up. An informative and fascinating question and answer period will follow the performance, giving all members of the audience an opportunity to learn more about Graham and his craft. For the past decade, the Studio has presented a wide range of puppetry at its annual "Puppet Slam," bringing together major U.S. puppeteers to display their latest creations. Last year, the Studio featured the amazing and hilarious work of Leslie Carrara-Rudolph, creator of the new character "Abby Cadabby" on "Sesame Street." Tickets for "Jack and the Beanstalk" can be ordered by calling the Studio's box office at 739-1983. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and can be charged to Visa or MasterCard. |
