Dr. Solomon offers help to new college students

Date: 7/19/2010

LONGMEADOW On July 26, in Wright Hall at Bay Path College, Susan Solomon Ph.D., a college educator and certified professional co-active coach, will give a free presentation to students who will enter college for the first time in the Fall about how they can be successful and have fun in college.

Many young adults will head off to college in the fall.

"Students and their families stress over getting into college," Solomon said. "They invest time, effort, and money in studying for and taking standardized tests, visiting campuses, laboring over every word in the application essay, finding the 'right' schools, and then getting in.

"But once in," she continued, "students do not get the same close, personal attention and support that they need to succeed and enjoy themselves. Parents want to protect their investment and see their children succeed."

Solomon points out the reality that, according to American College Testing (ACT), about one in four college freshmen leaves college before completing the sophomore year, and nearly one-half of all freshmen either drop out before getting their degree or complete their college education elsewhere.

In her presentation she will talk about how to avoid the mistakes most freshmen make, get good grades, balance school with social life, adapt from the high school to the college classroom, impress professors, start career planning, and more.
