SPRINGFIELD As part of a Community Partnership program and a continued commitment to local education, Dunkin' Donuts franchisees will award 50 $1,000 scholarships to qualified high school seniors in Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties. This is the fifth year of a very successful scholarship program that has donated over $300,000 to local students to date. This year the application process will be completely online at www.dunkindonuts.com/scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school. Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of "well rounded" character: positive academics record, demonstrated leadership, commitment to school and community activities and experience in the work environment. In addition, full-time and part-time employees of Dunkin' Donuts franchisees who meet the scholarship requirements are eligible and encouraged to apply. There is no escaping the fact that college costs are rising. According to the College Board, average tuition and fees for a private college are expected to increase by over six percent this year. "We are aware of the challenges families face in financing a college education," Peter Martins, a Springfield franchisee, said. "The franchisees of Dunkin' Donuts are very proud to provide these scholarships to help the families we see and serve everyday." Dunkin' Donuts franchisees have partnered with Scholarship America to administer the scholarship program and selection process. The deadline date for all online applications is March 15. All applicants will be notified of the final selection by mid-June. Scholarship winners will be recognized during an awards ceremony with the franchise owners and state dignitaries at the end of June. The official terms, requirements and application information are available at www.dunkindonuts.com/scholarship or local Dunkin' Donuts locations. |
