International youth program hosting car wash May 1

EAST LONGMEADOW The Greater Springfield Chapter of the Children's International Summer Villages (CISV) will be hosting a fundraising car wash at the First Congregational Church in East Longmeadow at the rotary on May 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. Coffee and baked goods will also be sold at the car wash, with proceeds from the entire event going toward funding the CISV programs.

This year, CISV will be sending a delegation of 11-year-olds from the Springfield area to a Village program in Hamburg, Germany. The Springfield CISV chapter will be also be hosting a Village program. The Village program, which will include delegations composed of four youths and one adult counselor from 10 different countries, will emphasize international friendship and cross-cultural communication. Currently, delegations from Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Germany, India, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United States will be attending the Springfield Village program.

Children's International Summer Villages is a non-profit, non-political, independent, volunteer organization that offers children and adults the opportunity to travel and make friendships worldwide while learning to understand and appreciate different cultures. CISV was founded in 1950 by Dr. Doris Allen as an independent, non-political volunteer organization promoting peace education and cross-cultural friendship. Since 1951, over 104,679 delegates from 93 countries have participated in more than 3,112 official international program activities.
