Live 'On the Wilder Side' this summer

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Department of Parks, Buildings & Recreation Management and Next Level Adventures will offer "On the Wilder Side" this summer.

For kids who are looking for a fun-filled out-of-the-ordinary experience, this adventure program is just right. Brad Miller of Next Level Adventures will run five one-week sessions that include team building games and challenges, kayaking, fishing, swimming, treasure hunts, hiking, snorkeling, survival skills and new challenge ropes course.

From beginner to expert level, participants will learn new skills while exploring fun ways of helping each other and the environment.

This camp is for kids age 8 and older. Sessions run from July 2 to 6, July 9 to 13, July 16 to 20, July 23 to 27 and July 30 to Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The cost is $200 per session for Springfield residents and $225 for non-residents.

The camp is located at the former Camp Wilder grounds on Parker Street.

Lunch will be provided, however, campers must bring a water bottle, swimsuit, towel, appropriate outdoor clothing, water shoes (or shoes that can get wet).

Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

A free open house will take place at Camp Wilder on April 18 from 2:30 to 5 p.m.
