LYA helps tornado victims
Date: 7/18/2011
LONGMEADOW Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy (LYA) organized a Walk-a-thon on June 21 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the baseball field at 1148 Converse St., to benefit disaster relief. Students spent the last week of school securing sponsors. Sponsors donated money per lap or a flat fee. LYA students from kindergarten through eighth grade raised about $1,700.
The Walk-a-thon was the initiative of Julie Seay, kindergarten and third grade secular studies teacher.
“The tornadoes that devastated our neighboring towns caused loss of life, serious injury, and destruction of property,” Seay said. “The LYA family feels compassion for our neighbors that have endured so much and are proud to be doing their part for the re-building of our community.”
All funds once collected will be distributed for Tornado Relief through the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts.
