Legend Joe Namath will host football camp

Date: 4/4/2011

Joe Namath, a member of the National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame, will conduct his football camp this summer at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Conn. Namath will be joined by Camp Director John Dockery and their former Super Bowl teammates Winston Hill and Dave Herman. These players will be in attendance at every camp practice throughout the week. In addition, many current NFL players will be at the camp along with more than 50 college, high school and pre-high school coaches in attendance.

The camp, which is open to boys of ages 8 to 18, will be conducted during the week of June 26 to July 1.

Tuition for 2011 is $795 for overnight campers and $495 for day campers. A $95 non-refundable deposit is required with your application. Full tuition is payable by June 10. No refunds after June 10 can be made for late arrivals, early departures, illness, injury, cancellation or dismissals.

Group Discounts: The camp offers a discount program that begins with a group of five or more campers. Contact the camp offices if interested in arranging for a group to attend.

Day Camper Program: The day camper schedule is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and includes full instruction, lunch, camp T-shirt, camp diploma, and awards.

Supervision: Players are supervised both on and off the field by our trained staff of coaches and counselors. The ratio of staff to campers will be approximately eight to one.

Sunday Clinics: In addition to the full week of football instructions, the camp offers optional clinics on June 26 to help refine each player's skills. This year, two-hour clinics will be offered in Quarterback Instruction, Speed Development and Weight Training.

Our Equipment: The camp has the latest football training equipment available, including tackling dummies, shields and sleds.

Required Equipment: Players must supply their own shoulder pads, helmet, chinstrap, pants, pads, cleats, mouthpieces, cup and athletic supporter. Most schools and town programs will loan equipment to prospective campers. A limited amount of equipment is available for a rental fee of $70.

Medical Care: Two qualified trainers and a registered nurse will be in attendance on the field and in the dorms. A pre-camp physical is required for each camper. Liability and medical insurance are covered in full detail on the fitness form.

Each camper will receive a complimentary playbook and T-shirt. In addition to football equipment, each camper should supply his own sheets, pillow, blanket, towel and toiletries.

Boys ages 8 to 18 are eligible to participate. Since leagues and state athletic boards have differing rules regarding participation in specialty camps, each boy or his parents should check with a coach or athletic director to satisfy themselves regarding eligibility. The camp conforms to rules governing high school and pre-high school football.

Special Clinics will take place June 26 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Quarterback Clinic: will also be offered, including instruction on exchange, passing, ball handling and footwork. Fee: $75.

Weight Training Clinic: Special program to develop durability, stamina and strength featuring NFL Strength Coach Craig Stoddard. Fee: $75.

Speed Development Clinic: Starting techniques, body lean, burst stride, finish featuring Brandon Wood, special instructor. Fee: $75.
