In September 2007, the Blueberry Hill School year started out like all the others, new teachers, familiar faces, the excitement of the last year of elementary school. In October 2007, one of their classmates, Kurtis LeDuc, was diagnosed with lymphoma and his illness, as well as his absence, was felt by all his peers and his teachers. This very special group of children, with the help of their parents and teachers, organized a fundraiser to purchase a laptop computer to communicate with Kurtis during his treatment. The spirit and effort they put forward to help their friend made such a positive difference and was felt by everyone in our community. We dedicated a graduation party to the class and great fund was had by all, and a wonderful memory was created. The fear that cancer brings was faced and overcome by these remarkable fifth graders, who were a great influence on the emotional health of their classmate. Coach Rauseo and the Longmeadow varsity lacrosse team came to celebrate with us and meet the kids. We appreciate having all of them there, and wish them congratulations on winning the state finals. The extra money from the fundraiser afforded the party, a well as a donation to "Griffin's Friends," a children's cancer fund. We would like to thank all who donated so much to ensure the success of this event. We are all grateful for your generosity and time Blueberry Hill parents and teachers, Griffin's Friends, Marx Entertainment, Bolduc's Apparel, Dinn Brothers Trophies, Longmeadow Community House, Friendly's Ice Cream, Costo, Rinaldi's Pizza, Kerry Leduc, Jason Kras, Becca Hodge, Kelly and Patrick Dawson, Sara Conway, Novak Family, Goldberg Family, Riordan Family, Dudeck Family, Mulcahey Family/St. Mary's School and Lorin Hutner.
