SPRINGFIELD - The following schedule of planetarium shows at the Springfield Science Museum will begin Oct. 5: Fridays at 2 p.m., "Splendors of the Autumn Sky" (ages 8 and up). Saturdays and Sundays at 11:15 a.m., "Splendors of the Autumn Sky," noon, "Magic Sky" (ages 3-7), 1 p.m., "Oceans in Space" (ages 7 and up), 2 p.m., "Stars Around the Campfire" (ages 8 and up). Planetarium tickets are free for members of the Springfield Museums. Nonmember tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for ages 3 to 17, in addition to museum admission. The Springfield Museums will offer a regular schedule of free drop-in science and art activities for families this fall. "Family Science Adventures" will be presented on weekends at the Springfield Science Museum. "Family Science Adventures" are sponsored by Bay State Gas. Saturdays and Sundays: 11:30 a.m. - noon: Science Adventures on the Move A roving scientist will demonstrate various scientific phenomena throughout the Science Museum galleries. 12:30 - 3:45 p.m.: Hands-on Family Science Activities are always changing but may include making simple electrical circuits, generating static electricity or sound waves, conducting kitchen chemistry experiments, or creating tornadoes in a bottle. Tuesdays through Sundays, George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum: Noon - 4 p.m.: Hands-on art-making activities in the Hasbro Games Art Discovery Center. Projects vary but include making bookmarks, Chinese magnetic puzzles, pop-up cards, model birch bark canoes, "hairy scary" spiders and more. The activities are sponsored by Hasbro. The Springfield Museums are located on the Quadrangle at 21 Edwards Street in downtown Springfield. Free parking is available in the Edwards Street parking lots. Hours are Tuesday - Sunday, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Science Museum open Tuesday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and college students, $5 for children 3-17, and free for children under three and museum members. Springfield residents are free with proof of residency.
