Survival Center seeking food donations

Date: 4/4/2011

INDIAN ORCHARD — During the Lenten season, a time when Christians everywhere are fasting and sacrificing as a sign of their faith, The Community Survival Center located at 240 Main St. is trying to provide food to hundreds of families who are fasting and sacrificing out of necessity as a way of life because hunger is not just about the holidays.

Over the years, churches and groups have made sponsoring an Easter food drive for the center an annual tradition.

The center would like to encourage the public to consider sponsoring one of their families by making a suggested contribution of $20, which would cover the cost of a traditional Easter dinner. People may also donate the food needed for an Easter dinner. The menu is canned ham (the non-refrigerated variety is easiest for food drives), canned yams, potatoes, carrots, sliced pineapple and a dessert.

The dinner will be distributed in time for Easter, which is on April 24. The center encourages everyone to remember that many of the families it provides Easter dinner to have children who would enjoy receiving Easter candy.
