Westfield YMCA offers youth basketball programs
Date: 10/15/2009
WESTFIELD The YMCA of Greater Westfield is offering revised basketball programs this season.
First, a new Early Season program will be available to any players ages seven to 12. These four early evening sessions will take place on Tuesdays, Nov. 10 to Dec. 1. Players will benefit from the two clinics, two practices and four games to help prepare for their winter season.
The three age groups of long time successful youth casketball programs will be conducted in new divisions this year with a changed format for the older divisions. Players from the Gateway, Southwick and Westfield areas (as well as surrounding towns) will be placed onto teams according to both age and experience, then play in separate leagues so that players will be able to improve their individual and team skills in more appropriate levels of play.
The divisions will play on Saturdays as follows: each team of ages seven to 12, Nov. 7 to Feb. 27 for 1.5 hours late morning to mid-afternoon; each team of ages five to six, Dec. 5 to Feb. 12 for 1.25 hours mid-morning.
All teams in the older age groups also have a few occasional early evening practices for one hour (usually on Tuesdays) during the season.
Registration continues to be accepted daily at the YMCA, 67 Court St.
