WGBY Presents The Cat in the Hat and the Buzz about Bees Family Fest

SPRINGFIELD WGBY and The Springfield Museums are pairing up to present The Cat in the Hat and the Buzz about Bees Family Fest Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will celebrate the launch of the upcoming PBS series, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, with activities for kids and families at the Springfield Museums.

The first episode of the new science-based series will be aired in the Museum's auditorium and the theme of that episode, The Buzz about Bees, will be the inspiration for the activities set up around the quadrangle highlighting the importance of bees to the environment.

Activities include:
  • A musical performance by Uncle Rock at 1 p.m.;
  • Meet a bee keeper and learn about the real bee hive in the Science Museum;
  • A scavenger hunt through the museums;
  • A honey market hosted by local bee keepers;
  • A cance to make bee antenna headbands;
  • A chance to try on glasses that make you see like a bee;
  • Greet the Cat in The Hat and Costumed Bee Characters as They Travel Through the Museums;
  • Cat in The Hat book giveaway courtesy of Link to Libraries and the Grinspoon Foundation.
Admission is free for members of WGBY and the Springfield Museums as well as for Springfield residents. For others, tickets are $12.50 for adults and $6.50 for children. For more information visit www.wgby.org

"As the site of the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, the Springfield Museums are thrilled to partner with WGBY to celebrate the premiere of the new 'Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That' PBS series," Kay Simpson, director of education and institutional advancement at the Museums, said. "We promise visitors a fun-filled day of Seussian hands-on activities that also showcase our new beehive exhibit in the Science Museum."
