William B. Meyer Inc. donates Teddy Bears to Baystate Children’s Hospital

SPRINGFIELD — Once again, William B. Meyer Inc. demonstrated the holiday spirit by putting their transportation, storage, and distribution services to good use … donating and delivering hundreds of brand new Teddy Bears to the young patients at Baystate Children’s Hospital to snuggle up with during their hospital stays.
As a fourth-generation owned and operated company, giving back to the local community has always been a major corporate initiative for the folks at William B. Meyer Inc. Each December, the familiar William B. Meyer moving trucks, used for residential and commercial moving services throughout the region, trade their typical cargo — furniture, boxes, crates and other large items — for a much cuddlier cargo: Mary Meyer Teddy Bears, which the company donates to Baystate Children’s Hospital and three other hospitals in New England.
“The smiles on the faces of these children make this corporate initiative the one we look forward to more than any other at this time of year,” Tom Gillon Sr., president of William B. Meyer Inc., said. “We have facilities in the area, and supporting the local community has always been a key component of our company philosophy. It warms the heart of every Meyer employee to know that these Teddy Bears might make a child’s hospital stay just a little bit brighter.”
Molly Gray, RN, director of Baystate Children’s Hospital said, “We are very grateful for the generous contributions by William B. Meyer to our patients’ comfort and healing. Spending time in the hospital, especially during the holidays, can be a strain on children and their families. These adorable Teddy Bears make a small yet positive difference in the way everyone’s holiday can be enjoyed.”
The soft, plush animals were delivered to the Baystate Children’s Hospital playdeck on Dec. 14, 2011 where patients, family members and hospital staff gathered for a Teddy Bear celebration.
Additional bears are donated to programs where young patients undergo various outpatient procedures.
