Festivals, events happening in the final weeks of summerDate: 9/3/2019 September may be Big E month, but it is also the time when the area hosts many other fairs and festivals.
The following are some of the events offered this month:
• Annual antiques show of the season in Brimfield
The largest outdoor antiques show in the country opens for its final run of 2019 Sept. 3. More than 5,000 dealers line the one-third mile strip of Route 20 through Brimfield for this extraordinary event. Show runs through Sept. 8. Some fields free, some have fees. Info: www.brimfieldshow.com
• Celebrate?all?things?Greek at Glendi at?St.?George Cathedral
This three-day celebration begins at 5 p.m. Sept. 6 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George St., Springfield. Come enjoy traditional Greek food, pastries, dancing, music, art and more. Also Sept. 7: noon-11 p.m., Sept. 8: noon-7 p.m. Info: www.stgeorgecath.org/glendi.
• The Mattoon Street Arts Festival returns to the?city’s?downtown
Sept. 7 and 8 marks the 47th anniversary of the Mattoon Street Arts Festival, featuring 100 juried artists, food vendors and strolling musicians along a beautiful Victorian street. Free parking at the TD Bank lot a block away, and free admission. Info: mattoonfestival.org.
• Annual Belchertown Fair
The theme for 162nd annual fair is “A Salute to Farms.” Belchertown makes it a priority to conserve, protect and encourage the maintenance and improvement of agricultural land for the production of food and other agricultural products. • Springfield remembers 9/11 at its Riverfront Park memorial site
The Spirit of Springfield will assist the Springfield Police and Fire Departments in hosting a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. on Sept. 11 at Riverfront Park, 1360 West Columbus Ave. Ceremony includes the lowering of the flag, roll out of emergency vehicles, tolling of the fire bell, gun salute and taps. • Annual “Fright Fest” opens?Sept. 21 at Six Flags?New England?
New England’s coaster capitol in Agawam is overrun with ghouls and zombies! Daytime Trick-or-Treat trail and Halloween-themed shows for the kids, at night it becomes a scarefest not suitable for children younger than 13. Separate admission price; included with season pass. • Love the outdoors? Plan a trip to mass. wildlife’s annual “Big Moe”
Sept. 22 at the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club, Hamilton Rd., Sturbridge, Mass Wildlife hosts its annual Outdoor Expo from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Free event offers target shooting, fishing, mountain biking, art, wildlife and nature exhibits in 45 stations. • It’s the second annual Folk Festival at the Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary on Sept. 28
