Who’s got the blues: Local winery hosting jam-packed Blues FestDate: 8/16/2022 BRIMFIELD – The Brimfield Winery will host its third annual Pioneer Valley Brimfield Blues Fest on Aug. 27 at 35 Main St.
The concert features the James Montgomery Band with special guests Christine Ohlman, Barry Goudreau, the Uptown Horns, Cliff Goodwin & Shorty Billups, Brother Kerry and the Hoptones and Misty Blues.
“It’s an unbelievable lineup with some of the biggest names in blues and rock and roll,” said frontman James Montgomery of the James Montgomery Blues Band. “The level of musicianship is at its best. Every single musician up there has links to major artists including Joe Cocker, Aerosmith, the Blues Brothers, the band Boston and Saturday Night Live, so it’s going to be an incredible day.”
Brimfield Winery owners Rusty and Kate Corriveau came up with the idea. They saw many concerts like this out in the Berkshires and Worcester, but the couple said there really hasn’t been anything attributed to blues in this corner of the Pioneer Valley.
Kate recalled, “Rusty connected with someone who is friends with James Montgomery and that’s how the whole thing got started. We’ve enhanced the show this year by adding even more talent such as these artists, so we’re expecting it to be an even larger turnout.”
Tickets are $40 per person in advance and $45 the day of. Gates will open at 12 p.m. and the festivities will begin at 1 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the Trooper Thomas Clardy Memorial Scholarship Fund – which in turn, supports scholarships for college-bound seniors at Hudson High School.
Musician/singer Christine Ohlman happily said, “I’m excited to see the town and to be a part of the scene at the festival. It’s going to be a high-powered show focusing on all aspects of the blues, Chicago blues as well as Delta blues.”
Lead vocalist Gina Coleman of Misty Blues added, “This is our first appearance at this festival. We’ve never played in Brimfield, and we’re excited to have our inaugural performance at the Brimfield Blues Festival. People can expect to see a highly energized set of predominantly original music infused with elements of funk, soul and jazz.”
Kate said, “For those who love blues, this is something you’ve been waiting for. For those who don’t know blues, this is a magnificent opportunity to see some of the best.”
