CHICOPEE Nancy Michon is looking for a few angels art angels, that is.

Michon is one of the co-chairs the fifth annual Fine Arts Friends Exhibit at the Chicopee Public Library and is hoping the community responds with donations to help fund the event.

Donations would fund the awards given to the winning artists, she explained, and the group hopes to raise $800. Those who donate $200 or more will earn the designation of "art angel," while those donating in the range of $100 to $199 will be "art patrons" and those donating under $100 will be "art friends." The donations are tax deductible.

Michon said the more money the group can raise, the greater the number of artists can be recognized.

The popular exhibit has drawn hundreds of visitors during previous runs and this year's show is scheduled to run from March 2 through April 3. An awards reception will be conducted March 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission to the exhibit is free.

Michon said the first year the exhibit featured the work of 37 artists and at last year's event that number had grown to 67. A variety of mediums is represented at the show including watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastels, woodcuts and sculpture. Michon is hoping to feature more sculpture as the library recently acquired six new enclosed display pedestals.

There is still time for artists to apply to have their work considered for the exhibition, Michon said. Applications are available from the library at 449 Front St. or on the group's Web site at www.friendsofchicopeelibrary.org. The deadline for applications is Jan. 25.

Checks for donations should be made out to "The Friends of the Chicopee Library" and sent to the library at 449 Front St. to the attention of Nancy Michon.
