CHICOPEE Parishioners of Grace Episcopal Church are gearing up for their annual Roast Beef Dinner and Auction slated Dec. 2, according to church organizers.

"It is one of our most popular dinners and helps us to begin the Christmas season," said Lisa Terlecky, church treasurer, during an interview with The Chicopee Herald.

Joan Hastings serves as function coordinator and is putting the finishing touches on the logistics and the menu which includes roast beef, butternut squash, mashed potatoes, rolls, dessert and beverage.

There will be two dinner sittings, at 5 and 6:30 p.m., and the public is welcome to attend. Tickets are $9 for adults, $4.50 for children ages four to 12, and free for children under four.

The church will use the money raised from the dinner to help cover its winter heating costs, according to Terlecky.

"The dinners we hold are a chance for the people not only in our church community but the local community to come together and spend time enjoying a delicious meal," she said, adding "we see a lot of the same people at every meal."

Terlecky noted that for some area residents it is "like a reunion or a chance to reconnect with those they do not get to see often." Terlecky added that the dinner also provides a chance to meet "some new great people."

In addition to the hearty feast being served up, the Women's Guild will host a Chinese Auction that will feature toys, household items and miscellaneous gifts appropriate for all ages. Proceeds raised from the auction will be distributed by the Women's Guild to various causes in the community as well as for church projects.

Terlecky said that parishioners have also been busy collecting new toys this month for their annual Christmas Toy Drive and a box for last-minute donations will be available at the dinner.

"The children in our Sunday School will be presenting them to an organization that distributes the toys to local children who are in need," she added.

Area residents interested in attending the dinner should make reservations by Nov. 29 by calling Lorraine Cash at (413) 593-5291.
