CHICOPEE —The following is a recipe for a fund-raiser: Paul Duval is a realtor who wants to get to know his city even better than he does now and he's an avid runner who'd like to raise some money for Lorraine's Soup Kitchen.

Putting those ingredients together, Duval created "Running for Food."

Duval explained to Reminder Publications that between July 1 and Oct. 16 he would run the 230 linear miles of the 1,000 named streets in the city. His goal is to raise $5,000 to donate to the Soup Kitchen.

He said he has never done anything like this before and is hoping to have some local celebrities run —or walk —with him. He has asked Sen. Scott Brown, a fellow runner, to accompany him on a street and Brown's office is attempting to set up a date.

Guest runners will receive a special T-shirt that is being underwritten by Bob Molta, the owner of the Real Living Realty where Duval works.

To help gain attention for the effort, Duval has set up a blog at http://running-for-food.blogspot.com. He will be posting updates on what streets he has visited and how much money he has raised.

He wrote on his blog, "I have been running since freshman year at CHS [Chicopee High School in] 1965! Recently, while running through the Memorial State Park, it came to me that it would/could/should be a good thing to run every street in Chicopee in an effort to raise money for the Soup Kitchen."

He will be starting his effort, appropriately enough, at Lorraine's Soup Kitchen at the corner of Meadow and Poindexter streets at 10 a.m. on July 1.

To make a pledge, log onto his blog and then go to the button that reads "donate now." His blog is linked with the Soup Kitchen's site and he said they would be handling all of the donations, which are tax deductible. He instructed each pledge should carry the notation, "Running for Food."
