PCNU, Bankers Bank support Buy Chicopee Now

Date: 9/12/2014

CHICOPEE – Mayor Richard Kos has said he wants people to choose living in Chicopee and a new program in the planning stages intends to show off the city and its housing stock.

Kos joined James Kelly the president and CEO of the Polish National Credit Union (PNCU), as well as officials from Banker’s Bank Northeast at an announcement on Sept. 3 about a $4,000 donation to help underwrite Buy Chicopee Now.

Kelly explained a PNCU team recently won the $4,000 in a golf tournament raffle hosted by Bankers Bank Northeast  with the understanding the money would be donated to a charity or program.

“Buy Chicopee Now is the best we could find,” he said.

Kos explained that $12,000 has been contributed to pay for marketing and social media costs to help get the word out about the city and what it offers homebuyers.

Glen Dudek of Real Living Reality noted that both Springfield and Holyoke have had such programs and enjoyed success.

Kos added that realtors and bankers in the city have been meeting regularly to help develop the new effort. Kelly said that Chicopee Savings has been prominent and that PNCU will be contributing to cover the cost of creating a website.

Dudek said the group is planning a public rollout of the program sometime in mid-November at the Chicopee Public Library.
