CHICOPEE-Chicopee Electric Light will once again host its popular Big Truck Day on Sept. 30 to kick off its participation in national Public Power Week festivities Oct. 1-7.

"Public Power Week is an annual event that celebrates the benefits of hometown, community owned electric utilities," said Jeffrey Cady, general manager of Chicopee Electric Light. "Our electric utility operates to benefit the entire community, as well as to provide safe, reliable power and high quality customer services."

Chicopee Electric Light is one of 2,000 electric utilities whose communities provide its citizens electricity services on a not-for-profit basis, added Cady.

Big Truck Day is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus on Granby Road. As in years past, a variety of vehicles from the city's police and fire departments will be on display, as well as from several city and state departments. In addition, volunteers, vehicles and equipment from local companies will participate in the event.

Free refreshments, prizes and giveaways focused on children are a few of the attractions for Big Truck Day.

"We hope that citizens of Chicopee enjoy the activities we have planned for this year," said Cady.
