CHICOPEE A recyclable bottle and can drive to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the local kickoff fundraiser for 2007, according to Bill McMahon, CF's local representative.

"We hope to have a good turnout and this is only the first of many fundraisers of 2007 to come," said McMahon during an interview with Reminder Publications.

Area residents interested in donating their clean bottles and cans are asked to put them in plastic bags or cases when dropping them off at 34 Orchard St. either on Jan. 13 or Jan. 20. Collection hours will be from 1 to 5 p.m., and McMahon noted there will be signs at each end of Orchard Street to direct persons to the home address.

"Your donations are tax-deductible," said McMahon, adding that individuals requesting a receipt must have an exact amount when dropping off the recycled items.

All proceeds raised from this fundraiser will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's research efforts in finding a cure for the deadly disease.

"Every monetary donation goes to research in finding a cure," added McMahon. "The CF Foundation does not receive direct federal funding, therefore, we depend on the generosity of individual donors, foundations and corporations to support its vital mission."

McMahon said the local CF Team is also gearing up for its March 10 fundraiser which includes a spaghetti dinner, raffle prizes, door prizes and a grand prize raffle. In addition, disc jockey Dana Collins will provide the tunes for the early evening affair. Tickets are limited and the cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages six to 12, and free for children under five.
