CHICOPEE -- Chicopee Chamber of Commerce President Gail Sherman started asking Sen. Scott Brown if he would consider speaking at the chamber's annual legislative meeting, Checkpoint 2010, when the newly elected senator appeared at the Hu Ke Lau as part of a thank-you tour of the state.
Her persistence paid off as Brown will be the keynote speaker at the event Oct. 4 at the Log Cabin Banquet & Meeting House in Holyoke. Registration starts at 12:15 p.m. and lunch begins at 12:30 p.m.
The event is co-sponsored by The Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce.
"We feel very fortunate that he has accepted our invitation," Sherman told Reminder Publications.
She said that State Sen. Michael Knapik has been working on arranging Brown's visit as well. This is the first time the Chicopee Chamber has collaborated with the Greater Westfield Chamber on an event, she said.
Besides speaking to the breakfast audience, Sherman anticipates that Brown will take some questions from those attending.
The last time the Checkpoint breakfast featured a United States senator was 10 years ago when Sen. John Kerry appeared, Sherman said.
She is hoping for a capacity audience of 500 attendees.
