CHICOPEE – The vote taken at the City Council meeting Sept. 15 authorizing the city to lend $425,00 the Western Massachusetts Economic Council has been invalidated.
The loan would have been used to pay for permitting work that would allow for the eventual sale and development of the Westover Airpark South property.
City Council President George Moreau issued the following statement following the meeting: “In recording the vote for the mayor’s appropriation request of $425,000 for the environmental permitting of Westover Airpark South from the stabilization fund, I incorrectly announced that the 8-5 vote passed the order.
“While the vote is a majority, any appropriation from the stabilization account requires a two thirds vote, thus the order was defeated.
“The major concern regarding this order was the need for more information. I strongly encourage Mayor Kos to resubmit this order for the next council meeting as it is an important initiative.”
