CHICOPEE – The report card for this round of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment Survey (MCAS) was deemed “overall positive,” according to Lynn Clark, the assistant superintendent for Instruction and Accountability.
She said that fifth and eighth graders took just the science portion of the MCAS, while 10th graders took science along with English Language Arts and math. Third, fifth and eighth graders also took the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) test as well.
Clark said the district saw “slight increase” in the district science scores.
At Chicopee Comprehensive High School there was a large gain in the English and math scores. Clark said that could be attributed to the “large focus “ on student data. She said teams of teachers analyzed student data to see strengths and weaknesses and then addressed the weaknesses.
“They really dug deeply,” she said.
There was also a “significant gain” in the science scores at both the Bowe and Bowie school.
The PARCC results will be available next month, she added.
